Introduction

All library faculty and staff must sign up for UTC ALERT.  

Situations Requiring Immediate Response

Acts of Violence

See the UTC Emergency Preparedness Guide for procedures.

Follow all directions given by Emergency Personnel and from campus administration via UTC ALERT.

Bomb Threat

See the UTC Emergency Preparedness Guide for procedures.

If instructed by dispatcher or emergency personnel, evacuate the building per the Building Evacuation Procedures.

Earthquake / Structural Damage

Fire

If you discover an actual fire situation or if you are directed to do so by campus police, immediately evacuate the building per the Building Evacuation Procedures.

If you smell smoke or other unusual odors suggesting a possible fire:

  1. If telephone available, inform of nature and location of incident as follows:
    1. Campus Police at 911
    2. Administrative Office at 4506
    3. Circulation Desk at 4501
    4. Reference Desk at 4510
  2. If no telephone available, inform Circulation Desk of nature and location of incident via walkie-talkie. Then, go to Circulation to ensure that the message was accurately received.
  3. Circulation Desk staff will contact offices per the list above.

Flooding

Gas Leaks

If you are directed to do so by campus police, immediately evacuate the building per the Building Evacuation Procedures.

If you smell unusual odors suggesting a possible gas leak:

  1. If telephone available, inform of nature and location of incident as follows:
    1. Campus Police at 911
    2. Administrative Office at 4506
    3. Circulation Desk at 4501
    4. Reference Desk at 4510
  2. If no telephone available, inform Circulation Desk of nature and location of incident via walkie-talkie. Then, go to Circulation to ensure that the message was accurately received.
  3. Circulation Desk staff will contact offices per the list above.
